The BASIC curriculum at En Garde Academy is quite rigorous, requiring students to have diligence, discipline, and the desire to perfect and push themselves further than they thought possible when they began. Although the class is "basic" don't confuse that with "slow or simple"--you will certainly be challenged! Focusing on a single discipline at a time, the building blocks for future excellence are carefully crafted.
The INTERMEDIATE curriculum builds on the basic foundation by encouraging students to learn the finer points of technique, to explore elements of style, and most importantly to begin overlapping disciplines. This interdisciplinary approach is usually framed by a specific style or genre.
The ADVANCED curriculum is also interdisciplinary, and has a continued emphasis on polishing technique with the goal of developing a nuanced performance. These classes are intended to be springboards into performance opportunities with En Garde Artists & Fight Crew.
are group-fight sessions dedicated to gathering fighters from the En Garde Academy, as well as invited guests from the NYC fight community at large, in our studio in an informal and ongoing basis… The goal is to foster a sense of community, to create a safe environment where ensemble-generated choreography can be explored, and to encourage the cross-pollination of ideas and a sense of "play". Each Mêlée has a specific theme and is completely self-contained — so you can attend as many sessions as you like, whenever you can make it…hence the "drop in" nature of the program. All you need do is RSVP to the invitation by the deadline so that we can plan the sessions to best suit the needs of the given group!
